(*I wish we could really just replace our bathroom.  You know, just toss the old one in the trash and buy a whole new one lol)

This pregnancy has really gotten everyone ready to get this house done, I think. My mother-in-law suggested we call BathFitter or ReBath about covering our old tub, so I looked up customer comments on the companies. I’ve always heard they’re great, but I wanted to get an idea about pricing (I hate in-home estimates when we’re pretty sure the company is going to be way too expensive for us). I found that the price to just cover the tub (no new walls, faucets, etc.) was around $1,000. And to get new walls would be closer to $5,000. Okay, that’s a lot more than we’re willing to spend.

When we bought our new toilet (-in-a-box haha) at Menards, we also looked at the showers and bathtubs.. you know, just in case we decided to get to that problem next. We found full shower or tub set-ups for less than $500 in some cases. While it may be a bit of a hassle (but not too hard, I assume) to redo our bathtub/shower ourselves, it has to be worth the $4,000+ savings!

I figured that we’ll keep that in mind until after Christmas when we have the extra money to just do everything at once, but my mother-in-law mentioned that she’ll have some time next month to work on it. It’s possible that we’ll have a new tub/walls/shower system (and toilet) in by the first of the year! I love that possibility, though it seems more likely that it will be started by then at least, and finished whenever there’s time. I’m just excited that before the baby is born, we’ll basically have a whole new bathroom.. and considering that is the worst room in the house, it will be a huge relief!

Once it’s done (or getting done), I’ll be happy to share before and after pictures, but not before then.  It’s just.. really bad.

I’ve also done a little research to find out the best time to buy carpet because that’s another thing we’ll need done before we have  baby crawling around.  I found out that the next “slow” season is between December 15th and February 15th, with the slowest being at the beginning of January.  I’ve read that not only is it the best time for good prices, but you’re more likely to be able to get the price down further.  While it’s great to pay the least amount possible, we also want to be sure we’re getting the most for our money.  I’ve been looking at best carpet for high-traffic areas, best with stains, etc., and how much padding is ideal.   This website is actually pretty helpful.
